Security Specialist
The interview was in person, at a Starbucks. They went over my resume and kept asking why I applied for the job even though I was overqualified. They said my 12+ months unemployed after military separation wasn't enough. Even though I could do the job, they told me on the spot I was overqualified and wouldn't hire me because they thought I would leave for another job later. Or maybe they could have just hired and promoted me internally? Anyway, it's all good now. I thought it was a strange way to do things. If they saw my resume and knew I was 'overqualified,' why waste both our time? They didn't even buy me a coffee, haha. I can laugh about it now, but it wasn't fun then.
- Given you're overqualified, what led you to apply for this position?
Editor
I had a two-step interview process. First, a Skype interview, which went okay even with some tech issues. The interviewer was nice and asked good questions. She said I'd hear back in a day or two about the next step, and she was right. The in-person interviews about a week later didn't go as well. The first person was late, which cut into my time for the second interview. The interviewer for the first in-person seemed sleepy, and I felt like she just wanted it to be over. The second in-person interview was a bit better, though rushed. She seemed interested, but the questions were basic. I suspect they already had someone in mind. It felt like they had to interview a certain number of people. She wanted to decide fast and said GAP Solutions would contact me. I waited a week with no word. I emailed the first interviewer about the decision, and got the standard rejection email. They should show more interest in interviewees. People take time off work for interviews, and our time is valuable.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
Proposal Specialist/Editor
I got reached out to by a recruiter to set up a phone interview. I let them know a good day to call me. I didn't get a call that day, so I sent an email and they proposed a time for the next day. (They didn't explain why they missed the call, or apologize.) I agreed to that time, but still no call. I sent them two more emails and still nothing. If something came up, I get it, but they should have let me know they couldn't do the interview, or had someone else reach out. Why reach out for a phone interview if you're not going to follow through?

Recruiting Coordinator
I applied online and heard back pretty fast with a phone call. The Supervisor did a phone screen and said they'd be in touch. Later that same week, I got another call to set up a more formal interview over Zoom because of COVID-19. Overall, they were quick to follow up, and it was a good experience.
- Can you tell me about your organizational skills?
