I applied for a moderator job and got a sample moderator assessment. I have years of moderation experience and have written community and safety guidelines before. The person I talked to was nice, but the assessment was a disaster. I knew it would be rejected before I finished it. The instructions didn't give any basic guidelines, so I had to find the community guidelines on their website. It was hard to even answer because of how the PDF was formatted. Even after doing my best with the little info given, I saw from the company's socials and website comments that they don't even follow their own community guidelines. It's obvious this company is still figuring things out. I suggest they make a better assessment with clear instructions in an easier format. They'll keep losing good employees if this is how they judge candidates.

The interview process was professional with HR, who spoke with the editor-in-chief about pay. It was all done through email and finished in one day. They confirmed I got the job right away and then started onboarding.

The online interview was really simple, mostly about the games and genres I like and the reasons why. I kept my answers honest and direct, making sure to explain my preferences clearly without making things up. It felt like a natural chat focused on my actual gaming interests.
