First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Galena Park ISD.
Instructional Specialist
I applied for the role and got a call within two weeks to set up an interview. The interview itself went really well. There were 5 people interviewing me.
- Can you describe your experience presenting professional development?
Math Teacher
I was at a job fair, not really looking for anything because I hadn't finished my Master's, and a hiring lady approached me because I was certified in Math. I talked to her about what I did and was interested in, and she liked me enough to call me later that day and said she wanted me to work for them.
- How would you explain a complex topic?
ESL Teacher
I was called to interview for a position at an elementary school. The principal and an instructional coach interviewed me. They asked situational questions and wanted to know my style of classroom management because that is the area of most need at the time. I had to get a background check and fingerprint scanning done as well as take another certification test (ESL) to qualify for the position that was open at the time. My hiring was largely contingent upon passing my certification tests.
- What is your approach to managing a student who is non-compliant with classroom rules and procedures?
Teacher
They keep it brief and to the point about what they're looking for and the experiences needed for the job. They usually have a certain personality type in mind for different roles. You need to be highly qualified and comfortable in intellectual conversation.
- What are your aspirations for the future?
