First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gaba Corporation.
English Teacher
The interview took place in the main building. It was quite formal, considering it's an English school that mainly serves corporate clients. I wore a cream suit, which I later learned is not typical for Japanese business culture. The interviewer was pleasant, and the overall process went smoothly. Despite the formality, the pay wasn't very competitive compared to other companies offering similar flexibility and better compensation without the strict dress code.
- How familiar are you with the Japanese corporate setting?
- Name three idioms you'd like to use when teaching students.

The interview process included both an online and an in-person meeting. The online part was quite brief, focusing on my past work experience. The in-person interview lasted about an hour and involved numerous questions covering topics like my teaching methodology, the objectives I set as a teacher, and my long-term career aspirations.
- What information do you have about our company?
- Can you elaborate on your previous work experience?
- How do you approach teaching?

So first you gotta send in your resume, and then you'll have an online interview with a recruiter. They'll hit you with a bunch of questions about your experience, your visa situation, and stuff like that. If you make it through that, there's a second interview. It's pretty similar to the first one, but they'll throw in some more skill-based tasks, like testing your typing speed during a practice lesson and asking you to explain the differences between some English phrases. After all that, they send your application and interview notes to a school manager in your preferred teaching area, and they'll decide who to hire without another interview. If the recruiter really likes you, they might keep your resume on file for a few months and call you back later.
- Do you know how to use Skype?
- I need you to review two client profiles and be prepared to talk about them.
- Can you explain and give examples of two different kinds of idioms, like one for business and one for travel?
