I went through three interviews total. First up was a chat with the recruiter, then I spoke with the hiring manager. For the last interview, I met with the hiring manager's executive and another team member. It all went pretty well.

This was the weirdest interview I've ever had. I've seen online that G/O seems to have ongoing culture problems. When I asked about the company culture and the bad employee reviews, the interviewer tried to tell me they weren't a big deal because they were from the "creative" staff (which isn't true, and even if it was, how is that an excuse?). They then went on to say that all companies have "bad reviews" and that they themselves never read G/O's reviews (good to know). I suspected early on that there might be issues with workplace attitudes. They asked me about "digital sales plans" I had created in a previous entry-level marketing role. Whether they were trying to trick me or just didn't review my resume properly, it felt off and happened more than once. The interviewer was confrontational and unprofessional the entire time. The interview definitely lived up to its ratings, and I'm glad I asked questions.

I went through three interviews that happened really quickly, and I thought they were going to hire me. But then, they went silent, and I found out their recruiter had left. I never heard back from them, even though I reached out a few times to the other people I spoke with.

It was a pretty standard interview process with two main parts. First, I had a chat with someone from HR, which was mostly about seeing if I'd be a good fit personality-wise. Then, I met with the editor-in-chief. This interview focused on making sure I really got what the job involves and if I had the skills to do it well. Remember to have your writing samples ready to show when you apply.
