After submitting my application online, I received a call for an interview at G/O Digital's Chicago office. I interviewed with five people: the Project Manager (Development), QA Assurance Manager, Director of Product Management, Sr Director of Development, and someone from the PMO. The interview was two and a half hours long and went well, with the senior leaders seeming relaxed and friendly. I felt confident about my chances but unfortunately received a rejection within an hour of finishing the interview. The rejection was communicated by phone, and I didn't even receive a courtesy email. The project manager and HR rep who coordinated the process were unprofessional when I followed up with post-interview queries. When I asked about travel reimbursement to Chicago, the HR rep said he'd get back to me but never did. Despite repeated emails and voicemails asking for feedback and reimbursement, I never heard back from them. It's probably good I didn't end up at a company like that, despite my initial hopes from an organization like Tegna. Their unprofessional behavior actually led me to a better company and job. My advice: ask about reimbursement upfront or don't expect it.

It started with a recruiter call, then a phone interview with a lead. After that, I had a face-to-face interview and got offered the job. But then they took back the offer two days before I was supposed to start because of a 'corporate restructure' and didn't help at all. The recruiter asked if I'd stop looking elsewhere if they offered me a job, saying they only want serious candidates, so I did, and I regret it. Don't trust them to keep their word; me and three others did and were treated really badly.

I was contacted by a recruiter who was super nice. After I confirmed I was interested, I chatted with the hiring manager, who also seemed really cool and knew his stuff. Then, the recruiter set up an in-person meeting at the downtown office. I met some of the team and did a written test. The senior DBA and data architect grilled me with some tough questions that really showed me how technically strong the company is.

It was a casual phone interview with the manager. The assistant mentioned I had to be onsite for a face-to-face meeting the next day. Communication was poor, and I didn't get any info on parking. The company seems to be in a state of change with many problems to solve. They need to develop better practices to ensure a positive candidate experience, regardless of the hiring outcome.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Given my skill level, were there interview questions to explore my skills and how I could resolve the company's extensive business challenges, considering current leadership, staffing, and staff issues? Although it was a casual conversation, some structure was needed but was absent.
