I went in for one in-person interview with Alea. It was really fast, she asked me a ton of questions about my resume but hadn't even looked at it much before we talked. Lots of the questions were just basic stuff about me she could have found out earlier. She also asked me weird questions about my religion, when I graduated, if I have a disability, and stuff like that. I didn't realize they were illegal questions at the time, but I answered everything truthfully and let her know about my disability. It felt super unprofessional and like they were more interested in a certain personality than actual job skills.

I sent in my portfolio and then met with Todd, the Creative Director and CEO. It felt strange, but he seemed keen to hire me. He did want a trial period with assignments first, which I was okay with, though it was odd. It turned out to be really disorganized. They wanted new artwork for the office but only wanted to pay for 3 hours of design time, like a freelancer. When I mentioned typical freelance rates, which would have been about $50 for new designs, he refused. He invited me to their weekly meeting, around 9:30 or 10 AM. Every time I went, he either called me mid-commute to cancel or I'd call and find out it was already off. After a few weeks of this, he just ghosted me. I later learned from an industry friend that the company has a bad rep in advertising and falsely claims to be award-winning. He made many empty promises, and it was clear he wasn't serious. Glad I didn't get the job, honestly - bad pay, unprofessional, and fake awards.

I applied online and about a week later, an executive assistant reached out via email. She invited me for an in-person interview with the CEO and VP. The CEO couldn't make it, so I ended up just meeting with the Vice President for about 20 minutes. He asked the usual interview questions and was good about answering mine. But when I was answering him, I didn't feel like he was always paying attention. A lot of the time, he was on his phone while I was talking and sometimes he'd ask me to repeat myself. Other times he'd just nod and move on, like he'd zoned out. It was honestly the strangest interview ever. At the end, he did say my experience seemed to fit the role well. He mentioned a second round with the CEO would be the next step (which I was excited about since the CEO and I know people in common and I've heard good things). They said they'd be in touch, but I never heard back after following up by email twice. I really like the company's pride in their work, their industry, and their culture, but the VP's behavior during the interview was really unprofessional.

It was very simple. They looked over my resume, asked some questions and asked about an experience I've had with dealing with deadlines. They also had an interview test the sent me at the end of the interview that represented what my work would be like with designing infographics.
