First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fullstack Academy.
Customer Success Associate
I got an email from the recruiter saying my profile was a great match. We set up a phone screen where they told me about Fullstack / Simplilearn and the job. They asked about my experience. I sent a thank you note after, but then didn't hear anything back about whether I got selected for the next interview. I know recruiters are busy, but it felt unprofessional to have a screen and then just go silent.
- Could you walk me through your background?
Data Analytics Instructor
The interview process was good until it took a weird turn. First round - Phone screen with a recruiter. It was explained to me that the Fullstack interview was actually for a position under Simplilearn, Fullstack's parent company. The interview was for a Data Analytics Instructor role that Simplilearn contracted with Caltech. Second round - Lesson demo. I was provided with a list of topics covered by their curriculum and I was tasked with creating and recording a 20-25 minute presentation. I was required to come up with the content myself, but as an instructor, the instructional materials would be provided. Third round - Technical screen. This is where things got weird. Due to time differences, my interview was scheduled for 5:30am in my local time zone. At 5:45am, I received an email that the interviewer could not make it "due to some reason" and that we needed to reschedule for the following day. When I did make it to the interview, it was clear that the interviewer thought I was a candidate for a different instructor position, but we continued with the process. I followed up via email and never received a response.
- Can you define what a histogram is?
- When would you choose to use a bar graph?
- What exactly is a pie chart?
Operations Manager
Applied online. Got a call back about 2 weeks later to schedule a zoom screening. It felt a bit weird because my interviewer didn't turn his camera on, but I had mine on. I was already past the point of easily turning mine off. They didn't give a lot of details about the job beforehand, unlike other companies I've dealt with. They just started asking about my background and how it fits. The interviewer had only been there a few months, so I doubt they knew much about the role themselves. I was still interested, but a little more cautious. I asked about what happens next. They said HR was 'very picky' and I'd hear back 'soon'. It's been weeks and still nothing. Even if I wasn't a good fit, a rejection email would have been polite.
- Can you tell me why you're interested in working for this company?
- How is your experience at XYZ company relevant to this role?
- What are your salary expectations?
Program Manager
I had some initial chats with a Co-founder and the People Ops Lead. Then I talked with six other team members and did a presentation where I mocked an info session about Fullstack's Grace Hopper Program. After that, I had more talks with the Co-Founders about their vision for the role and program, and who they thought would be a good fit. It was a really thorough and clear process, and I liked meeting so many people from the team. Fullstack really made sure I had all the info about the company and the job. I didn't take the offer because I felt it wasn't right for my career at this point. But for someone wanting to get into tech and help with gender disparity in the field, this role at a cool, mission-driven startup could be great.
- Can you share your experience in building successful partnerships?
