FSG Consultant Interview Questions
& Process

I applied to FSG through a friend who works there, and he sent my application to HR. HR contacted me a week later and asked me to also apply online. There was some issue with my online application being recognized, so I had to email back and forth with IT and HR to fix it. Once my application was in the system, I had a phone interview with a Consultant within a week. It was a 45-minute get-to-know-you interview where I was asked to walk them through my resume and highlight relevant skills. They also gave me a broad case scenario at the end. A few days later, I was contacted by someone from a different branch to set up an in-person interview, which would include a case study. It took weeks to schedule this interview, even though my schedule was open. The interview involved a standard interview with someone like a Program Assistant and a case study with a Director. I brought up my concerns about travel due to having young children, and they said there's flexibility for parents but couldn't give concrete details. They offered to connect me with a consultant with a family, which I accepted. The case study was challenging but manageable. A few days after that, I was contacted by someone in another remote office for another in-person interview. After I sent my availability, I didn't hear back for two weeks, and then they informed me they weren't offering me the job, stating my background didn't meet their needs. I suspect my family situation played a role, but I understand they can't explicitly state that. I don't think I was ready for the job due to the long hours and travel, but I liked the people and the mission.

The HR team was super organized and friendly for setting up interviews. Communication kinda dropped off after the second round though. I was told there were delays and didn't hear anything for two months after the second round, which was almost five months after I applied. The interviews were a good way to meet people and learn about the work. I just wish the process was smoother so I wasn't left hanging for so long. The process had 3 rounds: first, a phone screen with a Sr. Mgr. in my practice area. Second, a two-part interview with behavioral and case components, each with different FSG members. Third, a three-part interview with behavioral, case, and a presentation on a past client project that needed some prep.

The first step was a screening call, which turned out to be a full first-round interview. It lasted about 45 minutes and included behavioral questions along with a small market sizing exercise. After that, there was a first round that lasted 45 minutes, where I had to review a presentation and case brief and then present my recommendations.
