Director
The early interview steps were kind of vague, and then they became really quiet later on. There were way too many virtual interviews for a job in a direct service organization. I got the feeling that the HR and program teams weren't really on the same page about what the job actually entails.
- Can you describe how you specifically approach creating and managing your work/life balance?
Grant Writer
Applied for this job in Kirkland Wa. They send the questions an hour before. First interview was a chill virtual video call and the interviewer was nice. Second interview was a panel interview with 4 people, in person. It's good to prep before you get the questions so you can be extra prepared.
- Describe a situation where you needed info from a coworker for a task, but they didn't reply. What did you do?
- Suppose you're working on a programmatic report and find that info from another stakeholder doesn't match the funder's requirements. How would you address this before sending it in?
DEI Manager
I heard back from the recruiter about 1-2 days after I applied. They texted me to figure out my availability. I gave them some dates and times, and they got back to me with the best time for them. I thought I'd get a calendar invite but never did, which I found odd. During the call, the recruiter discussed the salary. The job posting said $70-87k, but they said it would be more like $70-78k. I told them I was looking for $87k based on my experience. The recruiter then said, "yea I think you are overqualified and you would not do well in the interview." This made me wonder why they even reached out if they thought I was overqualified and why they don't post the real salary range. It felt pretty unprofessional.
- Are you okay with the salary?
Weekend Relief Staff
I saw the job on an agency site and sent in my info. They responded the next day and asked me to come in for an interview. It was a bit tricky to find the place, the address they gave wasn't quite right, and I wandered around for a bit. The interview itself was really good! They started by asking about my past work as a mental health counselor and with young people. Then, they asked about how I'd deal with conflicts and tough situations. The last part involved some scenarios. It took them about a week to get back to me and then start checking my references. That reference and background check part took the longest, maybe 1.5 to 2 weeks. They called and offered me the job. Overall, the interview experience was great – everyone was super friendly and helpful.
