Operations
I wanted to share my interview journey to help others figure out if this is worth their time and effort. Communication was really spotty from the beginning. The first contact was good, but they didn't follow up well, leaving long quiet spells and needing me to chase them for info on what was next. This kept happening. As the interviews went on, it took up way more time. I went through several interview stages, including virtual chats and in-person meetings with different people. The interviews themselves felt professional, and what they told me during the process sounded positive. They said I'd get an update after the later stages. After I finished the last interviews, they just went silent. No updates, no explanation, not even a formal rejection, despite me politely asking for one. By then, I'd spent a lot of time prepping, rearranging my work schedule, and going to onsite meetings. Being left hanging with no answer after putting in that much effort felt rude. It was extra annoying because just a quick update would have been enough. A delay, a pause, or even a no would have been totally fine. Instead, the silence left me in the dark, not knowing if the job was still open, on hold, or something else. So, while the interviewers were nice enough, the hiring process itself seemed to lack responsibility and accountability. Basic, clear communication, even if there are delays or changes, is pretty standard in hiring, and that just wasn't here. My advice to management: Candidates put in serious time and effort when interviewing, especially later on. Giving updates on time or a clear conclusion, even if things change, would really improve how candidates feel and show you respect their time. The candidate experience didn't match the professional vibe I'd expect from a company this size.
- What are your plans for the first 90 days in this role?
VP of Growth
An internal recruiter reached out to me for an interview. I took over an hour to respond and then heard nothing back. I followed up two days later with no response. A week after that, I followed up again to see if they were still interviewing, and finally got a response. We chatted two days later. I advanced to the next round and scheduled an interview with the interim CMO. The day before the interview, they needed to reschedule. We tried again, and 27 minutes before the scheduled time, they reached out again needing to reschedule. For the final attempt, they contacted me 9 minutes before the interview, shortening it from an hour to 30 minutes and pushing back the start time (the second half of the original hour). The interim CMO was 15 minutes late and spent most of the interview discussing how the current three team members were not qualified for promotion, and one wasn't even qualified for their current role. It felt like a lot of red flags concerning their respect for my time and their own team.
- Given that the current team is underperforming, what would be your strategy for coaching them?
Administrative Assistant
I was already an employee at FreshDirect when I interviewed for this role. I had two interviews on the same day, the first with my direct manager and the second with another manager. During the interviews, I learned the admin role covered two locations, which seemed like a lot for the offered pay. After the interviews, I waited to hear back and was eventually told by my manager that someone else was selected. I later discovered the position was already filled before my interview, which I felt was unprofessional since they didn't tell me beforehand.

- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?

Data Scientist
I had a phone screen with the recruiter first, then a 45 minute video call with the hiring manager. After that, I completed a take-home assessment using their own dataset. The final round was an in-person interview with the hiring manager, the director of analytics, and a team member.
- Can you describe one of your past projects?
