First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fres-co System USA.
Maintenance Manager
It was a panel interview with 3 people. They asked a bunch of questions about my experience and what I could do to help them out. They seemed to be looking for someone to take the fall for things.
- What are your contributions to our team?
Manager
It started with a quick phone call with HR, followed by a whole day of meetings on-site with the hiring manager. Didn't really get to talk to the team much. Then, the people who made it to the end had to go back to meet with the executives.
- Can you describe your past work experiences?
- What are your strategies for handling challenging individuals?
Plant Manager
The interview process began with a taped Skype interview where I answered questions, which was a bit unusual but I got through it. Then I was invited for an onsite interview with Senior Management and the HR Director. I spent about 1.5 hours with the Senior Manager, which seemed to go well, but it cut into the HR Director's time, so that interview was shorter than planned. What was really unprofessional was the complete lack of follow-up; my follow-up email wasn't answered for 4 months. I don't mind not getting the job, especially since the company was facing difficulties after losing business to a competitor, but I'd expect HR to represent the company well, and this wasn't the way to do it.
- Were there any particularly difficult questions during the interview process?
- How did you respond to the questions asked?
Safety Environmental Coordinator
I was emailed about two weeks after applying to set up a phone interview for the next week. It ended up being a conference call with three interviewers. They asked about my understanding of the role, the company (which is hard to research beyond EPA stuff), and the town. They also wanted to know how I'd improve safety culture, my process for accident investigations, and what percent of the job I could handle immediately. Even though my resume was detailed, they didn't ask about my education, experience, or certifications. Only two interviewers seemed engaged; the third was quiet and asked the last question. The call was only 15 minutes. I didn't ask questions because of their attitude. Their answer to why they chose Red Oak, IA was just 'Economics'. My advice is to take all candidates seriously, especially recent grads, or don't waste their time.
- What percentage of the job can you do right now?
