First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Freeport-McMoRan.
Mechanical Engineer
It was a single round interview with the direct hiring manager. First, I had a nice call from HR to schedule the interview and it happened exactly on time. The interview lasted about 40 minutes and started with talking about my interests and past experiences. Then I had to present my undergrad projects and challenges I faced. The manager then told me about the work environment and shared about his own college days and degrees. By the end, he said we'll be working together this summer. It was a great interview and the HR people were very nice and helpful afterwards.
- Can you tell me about the details of some mining processes?
Mechanical Engineer
Applied online and heard back about a week later to set up an initial phone chat. About three weeks after that, I had a phone interview with the hiring manager. A week after that, I got scheduled for an in-person interview. HR and department folks were at all the interviews. HR asked me situational questions, and the department people asked about my experience. They seemed to be using a set list of questions. For every question, I was asked to give an example of a situation or technical problem and explain how I handled it.
- What are your biggest areas of weakness?
- Can you share an example of a difficult situation or technical challenge you faced and how you handled it?
Mechanical Engineer
I had a phone interview first, then a 30 minute chat with the hiring manager a few weeks later. It seemed to go okay, but they didn't end up offering me the job.

- What was your favorite class and why?
- Can you explain your choice of major?
