Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Freeport-McMoRan.
Data Scientist
It was a super long and kinda slow process. It ended with me doing a presentation for the management folks. There were like a bunch of phone screens with different people I'd be working with if I got the job. The whole thing took like a few months.
- Can you share the fundamental basics of your experience?
- What are the core essentials you bring to the table?
- Could you elaborate on the basics you know?
Data Scientist
I was first contacted by a third-party recruiter. The interview process had two main phases. The first was an online behavioral assessment on HireVue, which was self-recorded and only took about 15 minutes. After a few weeks, the company, FCX, reached out directly for a virtual onsite round. This onsite phase had three separate rounds, each lasting 45 minutes. They have fixed dates for these interviews, so you can't pick your own schedule. The virtual onsite experience was okay; the interviewers were professional and friendly, but the topics and logic discussed in each round were quite unusual. One round had three interviewers (an engineer, an analyst, and an HR rep) and no shadowing, with each person getting 15 minutes. They covered coding (like a tech company, needing bug-free code), behavioral questions, and case studies all within 45 minutes, and it was hard to know what they expected in just 15 minutes per person.
- Could you solve a Leetcode Medium coding problem, ensuring it's bug-free and runnable?
- Describe your approach to a case study involving a prediction scenario.
- Tell me about your past experiences as detailed on your resume.
Data Scientist
I had a 1st round video interview where they asked 5 questions. Each question took 3 minutes or less to answer and they were pretty basic. One question was about speaking up, another was about my experience.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to speak up?
- Tell me about your experience.
