Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Freenow by Lyft.
Principal Product Manager
There were 5 rounds total: a recruiter call, a session with a Group Product Manager, a meeting with the Head of Product, an engineering interview, and finally an interview with the COO. The process was mostly standard, including a live case study which is pretty typical if you know your stuff. Everything went well up until the COO interview. He seemed unprepared, rushed, and annoyed to be conducting an interview at 5 PM on a Friday.
- Can you tell me about your experience launching products from scratch?
Product Manager
The interview experience was highly unprofessional. The interviewer was in a crowded train station with a face mask on, and despite my suggestion to reschedule for a better setting, they declined. The constant noise from a megaphone made it difficult to hear, and the connection was lost multiple times as the interviewer moved around. I felt uncomfortable and unable to perform my best. It's unfair to compare candidates when interview conditions vary so much. I've conducted many interviews and never provided such a poor experience. Candidates deserve our full attention and consideration. I provided feedback to FreeNow but received no response or apology.

Product Manager
The first step was a chat with the recruiter. She explained the role and what they're looking for. She asked me about my past work and experiences. It was a relaxed chat and made me really want to work there. Then, I talked to one of the product heads. He was really nice and respectful. It felt more like a conversation than an interview. His questions were relevant, clear, and to the point, leading to a great discussion. I felt really good about the role and the company culture after that. I had to drop out because I got another job offer.
- Can you discuss your product management experience and background?
