Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Freedom House.
Program Associate
First, a phone interview with two program officers. Then, an in-person interview with the Program Manager and other program officers. There was also a foreign language part to check language skills because it was needed.
- What program management experience do you have?
- Tell me about your experience in program management.
- What is your experience with foreign languages?
Program Associate
The interview process started with two simple rounds. First, a 30-minute 1-on-1 call with the hiring manager. Then, a panel interview with 3 people from the Eurasia team, and be ready to demonstrate your Russian language skills on the spot. After that, I had a last-minute interview with the director of the Eurasia program, which was quite odd. Some strange, almost insulting comments were made, and the interview vibe was off. I never heard back after that. Just a heads-up, if they don't select you, you'll never hear from them. This has happened to me before after a final round interview.
- Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses.
- What previous work in democracy promotion are you proud of contributing to?
- What's your experience with these Eurasian states?
Program Associate
I had a phone interview with one of the program managers and she told me it's a first round. They have selected 10 people and if I make it to the next stage, I will be competing with other 2 people.
- Can you provide an instance from your professional background where you utilized a logical framework?
- Could you recount a situation where you were responsible for designing a project from its inception?
