First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Franciscan Children's.
Web Development Intern
The whole process took about 2 to 3 weeks. It started with an email from HR inviting me to a phone call to discuss my background, which was a brief conversation. Following that, I had an in-person interview that lasted around 45-60 minutes. During this interview, we went over my resume and the projects I've worked on. The discussion was quite interactive and covered basic topics. They also shared information about their organization and department.

Registered Nurse
The HR director wasn't available when I got there for my interview, she had already rescheduled from last week. I talked with one nurse manager for about 45 minutes. The other nurse manager was busy training and joined us for another 45 minutes. It was a non-threatening interview. Both nurse managers were really into the patients and upfront about the work environment. They really wanted to find the right person for their units. I called the HR manager after, but no response. It took her several weeks to email me back. She said they'd decide in a few weeks. When I followed up, she said they pushed the decision to next month. I kept emailing or calling every week and a half. Each time, she said I got the job, but no start date. She was vague and not enthusiastic. It's been 3 months and I still don't have a firm start date. I'm now back to job searching, hoping the next offer follows through. It seems like there's a disconnect between the clinical management and HR. I heard they have high turnover and just added more beds to all units. They might be overwhelmed. It's a shame because the staff seems to care about the patients and want to make it a great place to work.
- Why did you want to work at Franciscan compared to other major hospitals in Boston?
Assistant Teacher
I saw the ad online and emailed my resume. The director called me a few days later and invited me to the school. She was really nice and gave me a good tour, explaining the tough parts of the job as we walked. The interview focused on what I could handle and what I couldn't. She mentioned some students have behavioral issues and need help with personal care like using the bathroom, and some need help eating. She was upfront that it's a hard job and not for everyone, and that the assistant teacher role is basically a personal care assistant.
- Are you okay with helping students with personal care, like changing diapers and assisting with toileting, for students who may be 17 or 18 years old?
Mental Health Specialist
It was a really long process before the actual interviews. Lots of phone calls with HR, and then this weird group interview where they mostly asked about my availability and if I was okay working with children. The interview itself felt more like a tour and an introduction to the place. HR was super disorganized and sent a ton of emails.
