& Process

The interview process was pretty straightforward and wrapped up in about two weeks. A recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn and set up an initial phone chat. After that, I had a Zoom interview with the supervisor, which went fine. Finally, I went for an in-person interview where I met the team and the managers. I was told it went well and the next day I got an email asking for references for a background check. A week passed with no word, so I asked for an update and was told I'd hear by the end of the week. Another week, then two, then three went by with no updates from the recruiter, leaving me hanging about the job. It's been almost two months now, and I've basically accepted I was ghosted by the recruiter from Fox Robotics, the company that initially reached out to me. It's really disappointing because I was really excited about this role as it was a perfect fit for my skills. A recruiter who was so proactive suddenly ghosting a candidate after three interviews without even a rejection email is quite insulting. Especially when I heard that some former colleagues who interviewed after me actually got offers.

This was my second time applying to this company. The first time I applied for a similar position but was told I wouldn't be able to start soon enough. Another position opened up and I made it to the second round. But then, 1 hour before the interview, it was canceled with no explanation. I tried to reach out to see if there was an emergency or if the position was filled, but I got no response. I feel like even though I'm a candidate, I deserve to be told what happened. If it were the other way around, it would be considered extremely rude. It was obviously a very negative experience.

So the process started with a recruiter call and took about a month total. It was pretty standard: first, a coding test thing, then talked to the hiring manager, and after that, it was an on-site with four parts. They had one question like you'd see on LeetCode, then another coding problem, we chatted about fitting in with the team and how I work, and finally, the last talk was with the manager.

It's a startup environment with lots of learning, research and self-upskilling. The first interview was with the main dev and the owner, and it was technically heavy, covering algorithms, tech stack, etc. The second interview was with just the owner and focused more on situation-based questions.
