It was a four-round interview process, including the HR call. The interviews focused on my past experiences and how I'd approach the job. They kept giving me high hopes, even talking about my family relocating, but then I got rejected. The reason given was that leadership decided to go in a different direction. The leadership interview was supposed to have the CEO, but only the CTO showed up. The CTO initially said it wasn't an interview but proceeded with it anyway, even offering help afterward. While the other interviewers seemed okay, the leadership seemed easily swayed by minor discomforts. So, overall it was a really negative experience, especially after building up my hopes for almost a month. Glad I dodged this bullet though.

After submitting my application, I was asked to complete a problem-solving/critical-thinking test, which was efficient. Following that, I had my first interview with the president and VP of operations. They were both very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in me. They also explained the various career paths available starting in Client Services (customer support). Shortly after, I had a second interview with the same two individuals and the CEO, who is quite a character, in a good way. Their excitement about the company and the type of people they're looking for made me really enthusiastic about the role. Many of the people I met had assertive personalities, which might not be for everyone, and some questions could be a bit direct, but they were all good people.

The interview process had three stages: an online assessment, a programming and math test done onsite, and then a final onsite interview with multiple people. I felt like things went well throughout the process. I discussed my past projects and teamwork experiences. I also shared my initial thoughts on the company's product, Foundation, and what I liked about it. There seemed to be some confusion regarding the wording of questions on the written test. For instance, when asked to rate my skills against other senior engineers (e.g., a 6/10 in JavaScript), they interpreted it as my overall self-rating in that skill, rather than a comparison. This led to them being quite concerned about my perceived low JavaScript skill and asking in the onsite interview how I planned to improve. I addressed this confusion during the onsite interview, clarifying that my rating was a comparison against other senior engineers as per the question's phrasing. Despite this, I received a rejection letter stating they found other candidates with a better skill match, which I felt could have been determined earlier. It was a peculiar interview series, and I suspect they might not be very adept at interviewing senior candidates. The position remained posted online for a while after my rejection.

HR called me for about 5 minutes. Then, I had to take a math test at their headquarters. It was about 8th grade level math. This whole process felt pretty insulting, especially considering the pay was only $30k. The HR person didn't even read my resume, so they didn't realize I had over 10 years of experience. They also didn't tell me which position was actually available, basically bait and switching me from a job title I was interested in to an entry-level cold calling position.
