First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Foth.
Hydrogeologist
The whole process from applying to getting the phone screen and then the interview itself was fast. They let me know their decision pretty quickly after the interview. I didn't have to wait ages to find out if I got the job.
- Would you be open to traveling about 60% of the time for this role?
Mechanical Engineer
I was first contacted by a recruiter on Linkedin. Then, I had an hour-long call with Foth HR to go over my resume and get more details about me. I also used that time to ask them what they were looking for in the role. It seemed to go alright. I learned the job was in Green Bay or St. Paul. After speaking with HR, the recruiter called me. They wanted to set up a technical interview, but Foth was unsure if I wanted to move forward because they didn't think I sounded enthusiastic enough with HR. I confirmed I wanted to do the technical interview. The technical interview day arrived, and I talked with a Senior Manager, a Design Engineer, and a Project Manager. Their company structure is really flat, with Engineers, PMs, and then a couple of management levels. I immediately saw that this job would be a dead end in terms of career growth. The design engineer and Senior Manager seemed approachable, but the PM was overly confident. Many of us in the industry design and build because we're often the sole engineering support for the plants we serve. Foth's approach is very specialized, with distinct roles for draftsmen, designers, and project managers, each handing off work to the next person. This might work for some industries needing lots of people, but it's a luxury. They struggled to grasp the concept of one person managing a project from start to finish. When asked if I preferred being a designer or a project manager, I said I could do both and didn't have a strong preference. At that point, I realized the job description was unclear. Although it was presented as a project role, they specifically needed a design engineer. My response was taken as a lack of enthusiasm for Foth. After the technical interview, HR and the Senior Manager from the technical interview wanted a follow-up call to check my enthusiasm for Foth. By then, I was done talking with them, feeling like a teenager being constantly asked if someone likes you on a first date. I just wanted it to end. I haven't heard from them since.

The interview process involved several steps, starting with phone calls and concluding with an on-site meeting and a facility tour with several team members. The interviews felt pretty relaxed. It mostly asked about my past experiences and the knowledge gained from them, and what skills I could bring to the company. Everyone was super welcoming and friendly.
- What are your expectations for this role in terms of experience gained?
Resource Center Manager
The interview process involved several days of phone and in-person interviews with multiple people, including a shadow day. You'll interview with different levels of staff, such as other Resource Center Managers and executives. The interviews focus more on casual and cultural fit questions than on business-specific topics.
- Can you give an example of your previous work responsibilities?
