First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Foster Farms.
Packaging Engineer
First, HR gave me a call to talk about what they expect from the role, salary range, and where it is located. The next day, I had a call with the Manager, who asked more technical questions about a project I worked on and how I solved it. Finally, I met the VP for the last round, which was a casual chat to see if I fit the company culture. My advice: mention cost-saving!
- HR called to discuss expectations, salary, and location.
- The Manager asked technical questions about a past project and problem-solving approach.
- The VP had a casual chat to assess cultural fit (mention cost-saving!)
Purchasing Agent
I had 4 phone interviews and 1 in-person interview, which required me to fly to Livingston. The company culture seemed pretty rough. When I got to their Livingston Sourcing building, I waited outside for 25 minutes trying to contact the people I was supposed to meet. Nobody answered. About 14 employees walked by and didn't help or even let me in. Two of them actually said they couldn't help me. I eventually had to knock on the door to get into the lobby. For a billion-dollar company, they had no receptionist or security guard. I wasn't planning on stealing frozen chickens, so I don't know why they were so unhelpful.
- The VP of Sourcing said the fleet, including maintenance and drivers, was managed by a third party. Can you confirm this?
- Two other sourcing interviewers stated the fleet was managed internally. Could you clarify this discrepancy?
Management Trainee
You start with on-campus interviews, which are about 20 mins each. They'll ask stuff like how you handled a difficult group member, what you'd do if your manager disagreed with your approach, your best accomplishment in the last couple years, and something you learned in school. Then on Thursday, you meet at the Double Tree Hotel to get on a bus for a tour. Lunch is on the bus, and then it goes back to the hotel. After the tour, you head to dinner. The dinner starts with about an hour of talking with managers, where you can ask questions or just chat. Then you sit down for the actual dinner, which lasts about an hour to an hour and a half. You leave after that. Friday is interview day. You'll have 6 interviews, each lasting 20-30 mins with 7 different people. It goes by really fast.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- What is your biggest accomplishment?
- What does leadership mean to you? What does management mean to you?
Security Guard
I drove up to the gate and had to call because a guard walked off when I arrived. Another guard came and let me in for a 20-minute interview in a small shack. They asked basic questions about the job, my availability, and what a typical day would be like. They seemed to favor Spanish speakers or bilingual candidates. It felt like they were pushing for me to get the job, which I didn't like. On the plus side, they were nice and called me back to let me know the position was filled.
- Tell me about a challenging situation you faced in your last security role.
- Are you comfortable with periods of inactivity or downtime?
- What aspects of security work do you find appealing?
