First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Foss Swim School.
Teacher
The interview process was pretty easy! There's a lot of training before you're fully teaching, but it's all paid. The people are very nice. If you have swim experience, they're very pleased, and if you don't, they're willing to teach you everything you need to know.
- Do you have any experience in the water?
HR
I had a really good chat with the recruiter at Foss, she was super into the company's mission and values. She seemed really positive and easy to talk to. But then, the interview with the CHRO was the complete opposite. She was late to our video call, seemed totally checked out, and was distracted the whole time. It was a poor impression for someone representing the HR side of a growing company.
- What makes you want to join Foss?
- Do you know about our brand?
- Have you worked across multiple sites or states before?
Swim Instructor
The first interview was conducted online via Microsoft Teams. They asked about my experience working with children and what I liked about it. They also inquired about my previous job and the reasons for leaving. They could improve by scheduling more than 30 minutes for an interview, perhaps a full 60 minutes, instead of having multiple separate interviews to save time and resources. It felt rushed, and the interviewer was a bit late. I asked good questions and was engaged. The only drawback was that I wasn't local.
- What would an employer need to provide for you to stay with them?
- What is your availability to start?
Swimming Instructor
I applied online using their website and had a referral. They wanted an online interview within 24 hours. After that, I had an in-person interview within a couple of hours. They suggested I had the job if I wanted it, but they wanted to observe my interaction with children. I withdrew my application shortly after the online interview because I couldn't commit to their 9-month requirement, being a college student.
- Can you tell me about your swimming experience and if you know the basic strokes?
