The HR lady will first give a written test that needs to be completed in 30 minutes. It has 2 questions: one asking to draft an invitation email and the other asking for marketing ideas. After that, the manager will conduct a verbal interview with regular interview questions. The whole thing took about 15 minutes.

Applied and had one call with the hiring manager and an editor. The interviews felt rushed, like they already picked someone and were just talking to me to check a box. No small-talk or real interest in getting to know me. This was followed by an unpaid, hours-long writing assessment. After that, complete silence, even when I followed up. Super unprofessional and ironic, especially for a publication telling other businesses how to do better.

I applied through Glassdoor. First, I had a screening call with the managing editor. Then, I interviewed with the hiring manager, another editor, and finally the editor in chief. I also had to submit ideas and complete an editing test that took a few hours.

The whole process went by fast, with the second interview scheduled for the very next day after the first. The questions felt fair, and the interviewers were patient and seemed genuinely interested in my background. They took their time answering my questions thoroughly, although I didn't get a direct answer on some company-specific things. The info I got about career growth in machine learning was also different from what the job description said. The technical interview was pretty intense because it was with three people, and I would have preferred a one-on-one to make it easier to ask questions and collaborate without feeling watched. Despite the intensity, everyone seemed very professional.
