& Process

I took some time off of university to come work here for a year as an intern. Here are some of the skills I learned as a result of working extremely closely with other team leaders in the office as well as Istvan, the owner. First, I was taught how to be a professional in the workplace, how to wear a suit on a daily basis and be presentable, how to speak to coworkers, and how to lead a team. I was also taught how to recruit because I was allowed to break down the position to applicants and show them what to expect. I learned how to do initially train and then also train on an ongoing basis by working with people who were on my team as well as other coworkers on a daily basis. I learned how to motivate and have quality conversations to help people deal with their situations whether it was stuff at home or in the workplace by first shadowing other conversations and then eventually, by doing it myself. All that being said, the most valuable part of this job to me was personal growth. When I began, I was doing just well enough of a job to get by, I lived with my parents, and relied on many people to help me in my day to day things. Over the course of that year, I moved into an apartment, starting meal prepping every week, exercised every morning at 6 am, lost over 50 pounds of fat, got into a good routing for all of my tasks, started to take responsibility for my own circumstances and then taking control and changing them, upgraded my wardrobe, and overall have become a much more level headed individual who can (for the most part) think on his feet and solve problems quickly and efficiently. For anybody looking at this position and considering applying, if there is any aspect of your life that you are looking to improve, be it money, personal habits and routines, leadership, or general work experience, I genuinely believe that this job is the fastest and best way of reaching that goal. For me when I first started, it was a little bit of a baptism by fire, but it was also an important wake up call as to what I need to do to become the man I’d like to be. As I go back to school, I can firmly say that there is nothing I could’ve done in that year that would have prepared me better for the workload I have in front of me as well as my life beyond school when I graduate.

I applied for the Entry Level Management Trainee role on Indeed. A few days later, Fortis called and invited me for an interview. The job posting was unclear, so I asked the interviewer about the job duties. Their response was vague and didn't fully address my question. When I asked more questions, the interviewer seemed annoyed. I think if they had answered clearly the first time, I wouldn't have had to ask again. It feels like this company is hiding something. I suspect this "Entry Level Management Trainee Position" is actually a front for door-to-door sales.

The whole thing took about 2 weeks and had 3 steps. I talked to 3 different managers, and they all decided together to offer me the job. The first chat was around 30 minutes. The second interview went into more detail about the job and pay. Part of the second interview included watching a role-play and then doing one myself. They did this to check out my people skills and see if I was eager to learn. The third interview was basically an assessment based on the second interview.

Applied on Indeed.com and got asked for an interview. We had a group interview for about an hour. During the interview, we talked about the company's process and what we look forward to in a company. They responded within a day.
