It was a multi-step interview process with multiple people. Everyone seemed nice, but they abruptly made random excuses weeks later. When I asked about it, they ghosted me completely. Then the company just went dark. They seem to have a good product.

The recruiter reached out, and we had a brief chat. Some emails were exchanged after that. Then, a leader I talked to conducted the initial interviews over Teams. It was a good chance to learn about the role and ask my own questions.

The interview started with a recruiter phone screen. After that, I had an interview with the hiring manager. He asked some really strange questions, more fitting for a management role than an engineering one. The actual day-to-day responsibilities he described didn't quite align with the job description, which was a bit confusing. No technical questions were asked, besides a general 'how well do you know X technology?' query. It also seemed like the previous person in this role was the sole contributor and didn't share much knowledge, so they're looking for someone to take full ownership.

  • In a situation where a typically good employee is underperforming and frequently requesting time off, would you continue approving their PTO requests?
