Met with the team and manager. Everyone was super nice and professional. They asked a lot about my background and technical experience. They also went into detail about the job and what it involves.

I applied directly and a recruiter contacted me for a phone screening. The interview was fine, asked a bit about c++ memory management and OOP concepts. I was then invited for an on-site interview the following week. The interview experience was excellent, the engineering team seemed very passionate and personable. I was asked a lot about my current experience with debugging, problem solving, OOP questions, and memory management questions. They called the next day with an offer of $125k/yr. I accepted and was told the hiring manager would reach out to get an offer letter. About a week passed with little communication. When I reached out, it would take 24 hours+ to get a response. Finally, after a week, I got a call from the hiring manager saying they interviewed someone after they gave me the offer and they were going to go with them. The recruiter let me know 15 min before the hiring manager called to give the bad news. The hiring manager said they would be around afterward to answer any questions. I asked for a call back, but again I was given the cold shoulder. Finally, out of frustration, I requested not to be considered for any future roles. Overall, the interview itself was handled well, but I didn't appreciate getting an offer and then being left out to dry. It's a startup, so that might be the nature of the beast, but still not a great overall experience.

The interview process wasn't too difficult. There were some puzzle problems, a bit old-fashioned, but a good set of questions overall. I received an offer. The hiring manager mentioned they went over the budgeted compensation for the role, which added unnecessary pressure. The PTO offered was 12.6 days and couldn't be increased to 13. Sources indicated the company is traditional and expects employees to work over 50 hours a week. If this job is meant to replace a hobby, it might work out. The interview team was great, and the culture seemed okay from their perspective. Since it wasn't a step up in compensation from my current role, it wasn't the right fit. It felt awkward to ask for more benefits after negotiating a salary increase. I didn't realize the other benefits were lacking until the offer stage.

I had 5 interviews that took up half a day, with each interview lasting between 20 minutes and 2 hours. It was a very thorough process, with med-hard difficulty. I'd say the interview was a bit harder than average for tech industry roles, but that's pretty standard.
