First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fort Wayne Metals.
Information Technology Intern
It was a really relaxed and friendly process, focusing on getting to know you and understanding how you approach problem-solving and different scenarios. Since they know you're a student without much experience, it was very behavioral.
- Can you tell me about a time you dealt with a challenging situation?
Quality Engineer
Even though this company is growing fast, the managers took the time to get to know us candidates. They intentionally stuck to their script of questions to make sure interviews were consistent. I got the vibe that this would be a great place to work from the interviewers.
- Tell me about a time you couldn't meet a deadline.
Process Engineer
Since I'm not from Indiana, I had my interview over the phone. There were 6 people on the call with me, including HR. It felt more like a chat than a formal interview. They mainly went over my resume and past experiences. No tricky questions, as the company values personality fit over interview skills. Most questions, besides those about my resume or classes, were to gauge my fit within the company. Interviewing with a panel over the phone was a bit awkward because there was only one woman, and the male engineers sounded similar, making it hard to direct questions to specific people. Most interns interview in person, so I know my experience was a bit different.
- Tell me about the most challenging class you've taken.
- What key takeaways did you gain from that particular class?
Systems Administrator
The interview process was quite lengthy but ultimately straightforward. The main issue was their poor follow-up and communication, as it took a very long time for them to respond, and my attempts to follow up were met with silence.
- Can you describe your technical background and any specific preferences you have?
