& Process

It was pretty much what you'd expect for an internship interview. Started with a behavioral chat over the phone, then moved onto a technical interview where they asked about my past experiences and my interest in construction.

The interview and hiring process moved quickly from start to finish. HR contacted me about a week after I applied. I had a 20-30 minute phone interview with HR, and then the next week I was invited for an in-office interview with team members from my department and others. They asked important questions about my experience and how I handle situations, but it really felt like a casual conversation. It's helpful to know about the company beforehand and why you're interested in working there. HR was easy to communicate with before and after the interview, and they responded right away with helpful information. I got an offer pretty quickly and was invited back to the office for a tour and to meet many of the people. It was a nice gesture that helped me decide.

My hiring process was pretty unusual. Forrester visited my university for mock interviews. I dressed up, prepped my resume, and researched the company like I would for any real interview, not expecting anything to come of it. We'd already submitted our resumes, so the HR Manager had reviewed them. The interview lasted about 30 minutes. The interviewer's style was conversational, which was new to me, but apparently, I did well. My advice: be honest, confident, and have questions ready. Maintain good eye contact and emphasize your teamwork abilities. I think my casual attitude of not expecting anything actually helped. I made sure to connect with Forrester two more times when they returned to campus. I stayed in touch with HR to check for more intern openings (they were already filled by Dec/Jan). When May rolled around and a position became available, they must have remembered me because I received a basic, casual phone interview followed by an offer. I had a week to decide, and since I didn't have any other offers, I accepted the job!

I applied online and about two weeks later I had a phone screen. A week after that, I did an in-person interview at their office. Then I had a breakfast interview with a VP. The whole thing took about a month. After that, it went quiet. I kept in touch with HR for about two months, and they kept saying I was still a candidate. I ended up getting hired elsewhere during that time. If they had made an offer, I would have taken it. My advice: if you want to hire someone, make an offer fast because they might not be available for long. If you don't want them, just say so. Being left hanging isn't good for anyone.
