Behavioral

I applied online and had a referral. First, I had a phone chat with HR, who was quite pleasant. Then, about two weeks later, I had an in-person interview with two people from the design team. The first person I met seemed to be trying to discourage me from the role by talking about her 'enemies' and emphasizing that the job is tough with more bad days than good. She asked about handling confrontation and pressure. The second person was very friendly and easy to talk to, completely different from the first. She described the office atmosphere and teamwork. She was pleased that I wanted a busy work environment and could start right away. I was rejected via email two days after the in-person meeting. The waiting time in the conference room was longer than the actual interview time, and the whole visit was about two hours.

The interview process really dragged on. I had 5 interviews in total, including the first phone screen which was over an hour long. I spoke with 9 different people throughout. All the interviews felt like they went well and were pretty laid back. They scheduled me for interviews once a week. Even though they seemed to need someone quickly, they were definitely taking their time making the decision. In my fourth interview, I met with the owner, and he told me, "we're going to give you this position, but you have to decide if you want it." My fifth interview was with the owner's wife, and that also seemed to go well. The recruiter mentioned she'd get back to me by the middle of the following week. I sent a thank you email but heard nothing back. I left a voicemail with no response. A full week later, I sent another follow-up email, still nothing. Then, I saw the job posting was up again on LinkedIn and Indeed. I sent one last email asking for feedback since it was obvious I didn't get the job. I received a standard, unhelpful email saying I wasn't selected. I actually enjoyed the beginning of the process, but it left me with a really bad impression and zero explanation for why I wasn't chosen.

After submitting my resume, they reached out via email to set up an interview. I came prepared with my portfolio and gave a presentation to the Art Director and heads of various design departments. Finally, I met with the owner to review my portfolio and discuss my interest in a role at FC. The initial part of the process was with some energetic, young, and friendly people, but it changed negatively when I met the owner.

Behavioral Other

The company has a really laid-back culture, and the interview process reflected that. It felt more like a casual chat than a formal interview, which I think is why I performed well. During the interview, you meet with multiple people one-on-one, giving you a sense of the company's vibe and how everyone works together. It's a growing company but still has that small-company feel, where everyone seems friendly and gets along. There was a lot of positive energy and laughter throughout the building.
