I got referred by a friend to the District Visual Manager. The whole process had three parts: an interview with the store manager, the visual manager, and the district visual manager. The first two interviews felt similar, focusing on my experience and background. The last interview with the District Visual Manager was tougher. She also asked about my background and experience, but I had to give a lot more detail. For her, I had to create outfits that represented specific 'girls'. After I presented them, she critiqued my choices, saying I didn't add enough accessories, which she felt was crucial for the Forever 21 brand. It was a bit inconvenient because I had to meet with each manager on separate days, and the interview with the district manager was in another city.

I was contacted by a recruiter about a new opportunity even though I was happy at my current job. I agreed to an interview and was told I'd meet the Visual Director at a store. We met outside the store and sat on a bench in the mall, which I found unprofessional due to the distractions and difficulty hearing. We discussed my background and current job. She then asked about upcoming summer trends, style icons, and the next big color story, and asked me to pull an outfit in 5 minutes. After that, I was invited for a second interview at another store with the regional manager and several other visual managers. This interview was scheduled for after the store closed at 9 pm. Upon arrival, they were unboxing and preparing to dress around 45 new realistic mannequins and their wigs. The director then asked me to merchandise the front of the store with a nautical theme using any fixtures and merchandise available. I spent about an hour and a half doing this. When I presented my work, she criticized it, saying it wasn't nautical enough, despite my difficulty finding any nautical items. She then asked me to redo the section with a military theme. After I had already been working for hours, she told me to change it again. I informed her it was 3 am and I had to be at work in 4 hours, so I couldn't continue. She became upset and ended the interview, letting me leave without any further communication.
