I applied for an intern position, not the May one. I was told the role focused on SQL and Tableau, mainly data visualization. The first round was a 15-minute chat with HR where I was asked about my SQL and Tableau knowledge. My experience with these came from university projects, while my data science projects used Python libraries for visualization. I did not move forward. It seems HR didn't understand what "data science" means or its associated terms. It was surprising because I mentioned I've worked with Tableau and completed modules on databases and business intelligence, yet competency couldn't be assessed in a 15-min chat without a test, unlike how a data scientist might assess it.

The interview process focused on SQL, database concepts, and data visualization. There were two interviews. The first was with a senior member of the department, and the second was with the department head. The conversation with the department head was more about understanding your career goals and aligning expectations, as foodpanda is a large company and the specific team you're interested in matters.

So I applied online and then a hiring manager from Foodpanda APAC reached out to me on LinkedIn. We had to schedule the interview, and it was a bit tricky because of the time difference, so the available slots were limited. The whole thing was pretty fast, only lasted about 15 minutes. He just asked about when I could start the internship and if it was a credit-bearing one.
