First, there was a Zoom interview, and then a tour. The questions were very straightforward. The facility is really nice, though the campus layout is a bit confusing. The staff and interviewers were very professional and friendly. There was a lot of traffic around the area, but it was manageable.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

Got contacted by someone who set up the first interview for the next day, Tuesday. She messaged me Monday afternoon saying she expected to hear back by 4pm. Problem is, I live 5 hours away and the message didn't give any specifics about where to go. I didn't hear back Tuesday, so I called HR. HR said that for this kind of job, they usually give candidates a few days to arrange travel and cover expenses. HR then talked to the hiring manager and let me know the person who messaged me would call to set up an interview for the next week so I could plan travel. She did call, but seemed clueless, couldn't even tell me who I'd be meeting. The interview itself was panel-style, interesting, and fit the job description, with good behavioral questions. I traveled, got a hotel, and took a day off for it, with no hint of a second round. Then, I got another message about a second interview. I called back accepting the time and date, asked about the process and who I'd meet. An email confirmed the meeting, but didn't address my questions about accommodations or interview type. The second interview was with the VP of the program and other leaders. It was unstructured, and it felt like they already knew my fate. Two weeks later, I found out from the VP they'd pulled the position and rewritten it. I'd have to reapply, but she said she'd cover travel for the new position, though not the old one. No thanks. It felt unethical. The panel interview was great, and I thought they'd be good colleagues. The interview with leadership felt dismissive and uncaring about how their decisions affect their team.

Behavioral Presentation

I applied online and an admin professional contacted me to schedule the interview. The team was very courteous and professional. Since it's a state institution, everything is done by the book. The interview was a panel of peers and internal clients. Each person had two or three pre-set questions. I found this format limiting because it didn't allow for a free exchange of information. I'm not sure if it was the format or time constraints, but I felt they were just going through the motions instead of really getting to know me. I didn't make it to the second round, and there was no follow-up, so I had to call to find out the result. I think it's a good place to work overall, but the interview process is very slow, which seems typical for higher education.
