Florida House of Representatives Interview Questions
& Process

I interviewed for a Verifier (Editor) job. The interview was pretty simple, just asking about my background and explaining the job more. It took place in the FL Capitol Clerk's Office on the 15th floor. Interestingly, I didn't meet my direct supervisor during the interview; I met them after I was already working there.

I worked in House Administration from February to May during a session. The interview process was straightforward, with just one staff member from House Administration. My interview was in January, and I got hired two weeks later to start in mid-February to get ready for the session. Administration is cool with school schedules as long as you can work about 15 hours a week. It's a good chance and resume booster for college students.

I applied through indeed and got an email saying they picked someone else. But then two months later, the representative I'd be working for called and set up an interview at a Panera. I showed up on time with my resume, cover letter, and a state application just in case. The representative was late, so two other ladies started asking me questions about myself and my future plans. They asked me what constituent services means to me and what I'd do in a room with lobbyists and others. I was struggling with the lobbyist question when the representative showed up and asked about another candidate. Since the role was bilingual, she did a role play in Haitian Creole, even though I mentioned my Creole needed work. The representative wasn't very nice, and even though they knew I lacked political science experience, they expected me to know how to handle lobbyists. I researched the representative's political interests beforehand but still didn't get the lobbyist question right. I gave them my cover letter anyway at the end. It's frustrating how interviewers can be so rude after we put in so much effort.

The interview was at the capital building. Finding the place was a bit tricky, but my interviewer guided me to the observation area where you can see the whole city. The actual meeting was more laid-back than I thought it would be.
