Marketing
It was painless, simple and pretty quick. Came to the office, met with some upper management, took a tour then answered some questions. What were my goals? Would I be interested in learning new skills and if so, how would I then use the skills in life?
- What were my goals if I got the job?
Business Analyst
It usually starts with a 30 min call with a recruiter or hiring manager. They'll wanna chat about your background, if you've done data analysis or product work before, and why you're interested in this gig and company. Be ready to talk about your SQL abilities and how you've helped out teams with different functions.
- Could you share an instance where you leveraged data to impact a product or business outcome?
- Please elaborate on your experience with SQL.
- Describe your experience working with and supporting cross-functional teams.
Data Scientist
I did the first interview on Zoom, but the interviewer didn't show up for an hour. I had to reach out to reschedule. In the second interview, the interviewer asked if I'd seen his LinkedIn and suggested I check it later. He then questioned my low undergrad GPA (3.5) and my gap between graduating in January and interviewing in May, which I explained was for vacation. He pressed me on my math understanding by asking about my undergrad exam scores and then asked questions that weren't related to data science or statistics, like deriving eigenvalue equations, finding the correlation between x and x^2, and how to get that correlation function. The interview concluded in 15 minutes with no follow-up.
- How do you calculate the correlation of x and x^2?
Customer Service Manager
They called me to set up an interview and I had to go in person to their office in Boca Raton. When I got there, I discovered it was a job fair, not a one-on-one interview. Then, we were in a conference room with 8 other people. The interviewer started asking general questions to everyone right there. It was very impersonal and didn't give a real chance for a detailed conversation. They kept saying someone would call us back, but honestly, don't count on it, no one will. Given all this, I'm actually happy I didn't get an offer, because this hiring process reflects poorly on the company, and I wouldn't want to work there anyway.
- Can you tell me about your years of management experience?
