Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Flexport.
Recruiter
First, I had a chat with a technical recruiter who was really great, seemed thoughtful and interested in what makes me tick. Then, a one-hour call with the hiring manager, focused more on getting to know each other than mutual fit. About 45 minutes in, he asked a question, and his response was, "sorry i was just on slack can you repeat your answer." Appreciated the honesty, but almost ended the call. Was then asked to come onsite to meet him and another hiring manager to get a feel for the office and potential team. Never heard back after the onsite, which was a bummer after three rounds, especially recruiter to recruiter.
- Can you describe how you build strong relationships with hiring managers?
Recruiting Coordinator
I applied online and got a call a few days later for a phone interview. The phone interview involved basic questions about my motivation for the job, my career aspirations, and my qualifications. I was then supposed to have a second interview, but it took a week for them to schedule it. The onsite interview was three hours long and involved meeting with four different people. They seemed friendly and asked standard questions. They indicated they would provide a decision in a few days. When the decision date passed, they postponed, saying they'd be in touch later that week. We set up a call, but they never called. I followed up, and it turned out they had forgotten. We rescheduled, and again, they missed the call. A third reschedule happened, and they finally called, though 30 minutes late. Even in a fast-paced and growing company, commitments need to be honored. Forgetting twice after one postponement and then calling late is unprofessional and inexcusable from a hiring manager. While the feedback was useful, a timely email would have been sufficient.
- Can you describe your approach to time management and prioritization?
Recruiter
The candidate experience was GREAT. I saw the job posting on LinkedIn and applied. A few days later, I got an email from the hiring manager, and we set up a call to discuss my background and Flexport's company culture. We really clicked. She then connected me with the HR Coordinator to arrange a Zoom video call with her team (4 people) for a 2-hour interview. The following week, I was invited to the Atlanta office to meet more managers and team members. Two days after that, I received an offer. Overall, a great interview process – the company kept me in the loop, and no one missed a beat.
