Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Flexport.
Product Designer
It was 5 rounds total. First was an HR phone call (30 mins), then a Hiring Manager initial screen (30 mins). After that, I had a 1-hour session to present 2 projects from my portfolio. Then, a 1-hour Whiteboard Challenge, and finally, a 1-hour session with stakeholders for cross-functional and behavioral discussions.
- Can you share details about your most impactful design projects and the problems you addressed?
- Describe your approach to collaborating with cross-functional teams on significant projects.
Product Designer
It was a really organized interview process. First, I had a call with the hiring manager. After that, there was a panel interview that included an introduction to the company, a presentation of my portfolio, and one-on-one chats with team members. Finally, I had a meeting with the recruiter.
- Can you explain how research influences your design process?
Product Designer
The interview process was pretty standard and aligned with what was on their website. It started with a phone call with the recruiter, followed by a call with the hiring manager. Then, there was a 4-hour virtual onsite. This included an introduction to Flexport and the team, which was nice, followed by a portfolio presentation to a product panel (hiring manager, 2 team members, an engineer, and a PM). After that, there was a whiteboarding exercise and a series of 1:1 meetings with the hiring manager, a PM, and an engineer. Ultimately, there was no mutual fit. The interview process was well organized, but like others have mentioned, I got ghosted by the manager or recruiter. Even though the outcome wasn't a surprise, it's disappointing to be ghosted after the onsite, especially for a company like Flexport.
- What were your design choices and why?
- Tell me about some behavioral situations you've encountered.
