First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Flad Architects.
Administrative Assistant
Got an email about salary expectations. Then another saying the $63,000 offer was low but it's what they could do with my experience, with rates of $27-$40/hr. Asked if that was okay to proceed. I asked for a higher rate. They scheduled a phone screen. Got rejected a week after the phone screen.
- Would you be okay with a salary of $63,000, and if so, we can move forward?
Architect
The first step was an HR phone screening. The HR person did most of the talking, focusing on selling the company. Towards the end, they asked about my salary expectations and mentioned that if they were within range, the next step would be a Zoom interview. So, the screening seemed to be mainly about salary requirements. They also mentioned a return-to-office policy starting after Labor Day 2021, with a 3-day in-office and 2-day remote schedule, and that they discourage negotiating flexibility.
- Can you describe a typical workday for you?
- Could you tell me about your background?
- How proficient are you with Revit?
Architectural
It was a set of interviews. First, I had a standard HR interview with an assistant. After that, I had an interview with a panel of three intermediate architectural staff members. They all interviewed me at the same time, which was a bit uncomfortable. Two of them were nice, but one was difficult. I guess it went okay because I got job offers from two firms. Flad took a really long time to make an offer, I had almost given up on them. But they ended up offering a lot more money than the other firm, so it was an easy choice.
- What are your thoughts on the standard HR interview questions?
- Can you tell us about your experience with architectural projects?
- How do you handle working with a team, especially when there are different personalities involved?
Graphic Designer
I talked to about 3 to 4 people who were on the team and from different levels in the company. It was nice to get a big picture of the company and the interview process was pretty quick. For this job, I had to show my portfolio and talk about why I made certain design choices.
