I had a quick chat with the hiring manager. They asked me some questions about myself, my background, work history, and my goals for the next five years. We also discussed my sales experience, how I approach selling, what makes a good sale in my opinion, what I could bring to the company, and my availability and transportation.

The interview process was easy, I talked to the manager and he booked me an interview for later that week. After the interview I came in the next day to shadow and was hired.

My impression from this one interaction is that this place is trying to be like Planet Fitness but isn't quite there yet. They don't seem to know their target audience or how to reach them, which is a strange place to start. The interviewer wasn't really a fitness guy; he was a bit overweight and seemed to have a finance background. I'm sure he's good with numbers, but probably not with actual running. It felt like typical staffing for a wellness place trying to attract lots of people with promises of a healthier lifestyle, maybe with some unhealthy perks mixed in. From what I gathered, some corporate group hired new middle managers to run a gym that's just okay. Their model seems to be low membership fees, no contracts, minimal personal training, and it's sort of clean with mostly working equipment. Staff-wise, they're looking for driven people with little experience who will work long hours for low pay. It might be a decent option for someone new to the industry if they live nearby and want a free gym membership.
