I applied for an analyst position during my last year of college. Despite my initial preference, they steered me towards a machine learning role. The first couple of interviews were pretty smooth and mainly involved talking. However, the final interview was really tough. It included a live coding test done with the whole team watching and no notes allowed, a case study I had to present, and then another hour of just chatting.

The whole thing took about 2-3 weeks, with emails and calls lasting 30 mins to an hour. First up was a chat to see if you're a good fit personality-wise and if you know the firm. Then, a second interview with two people: one manager and someone already doing the job. This second one was mostly technical, asking about my tech stack and how I've used it. It's kinda streamlined, but you gotta keep your recruiter in the loop so you don't get lost in the pile.

Getting the interview was pretty easy, mostly luck and being in the right place. My college job board had an investment associate opening, and after checking out the company, I found out a friend worked in a similar role elsewhere. So, applying through the job board and getting a referral got me an interview fast, within a week. The interview process is pretty standard for companies this size: a phone interview, then a panel interview, and other parts I didn't get to. The phone interview was simple, mostly about my goals for the company, myself right now, and my 10-year plan. They asked a lot about my resume and personal experiences, like 'What was your most proud moment in the past year?' or 'Why did you choose your college? and were you happy with that decision?'. The whole thing took about 45 minutes. After they asked their questions, I got to ask mine. The interviewer was a bit much though, super confident and clearly thought they knew everything, even though they'd only been at Fisher a short time. They spent an extra 15 minutes just bragging, which wasn't the best look. That was it for me.
