The interview process begins with a phone screening, then moves to an initial interview with the recruiters. Following that, there's a second interview involving both the recruiters and your potential supervisor. It was definitely a challenging interview process, and during my interview for Housing Support, I wasn't sure about the outcome. However, they seem to do a good job of finding the right people for the role.

I saw the job opening on the D.W.S. website for a Line Cook at First Step House. I emailed Rodney Symes, the Director of Operations, about my experience, particularly running the Odyssey House kitchen, and my interest in the role. After about a month of waiting and follow-ups, I got an interview. The interview itself was fine, and I talked about my criminal history and my own treatment at Odyssey House. That same night, Rodney called me and offered me the Line Cook job.

I had a phone call with the main recruiter for First Step House. She was a few minutes late and seemed distracted, even admitting to being sidetracked by an email during our conversation. She also appeared uninterested overall. After asking me about my background and interest in the role, she repeatedly asked why I left my previous job. I explained that I wanted to advance my HR career, which wasn't possible in my last position. However, she seemed skeptical and kept asking about it, as if she expected some dramatic reason. Despite my qualifications, she focused heavily on this one point, which I felt was biased. The interview concluded, and I never heard back from her.
