Personal Banker
This part-time Personal Banker job ($10/hr) had THREE interviews. The first was with a nice, welcoming recruiter asking basic questions like why I applied, why I left previous jobs, and about relevant duties. The second was with the branch manager, also nice, asking similar questions but more situational, and also took me to the aisles to gauge my comfort approaching customers. The third interview was with the district manager who asked the same questions as the branch manager, possibly to check consistency. She then asked me to sell her the pen she was writing with, which felt odd given the branch manager's earlier emphasis on relationship building over pushiness. I declined the offer because I accepted another job within the 3-week interview process. Three interviews for just a part-time $10 job is CRAZY! I would have loved to work with them, but I couldn't wait any longer as I really needed to start working. Plus, I was offered full-time at $14.50 an hour with another company after just one interview!
- How do you deal with angry customers?
- What action would you take if you witnessed a colleague stealing?
- Could you define what customer service means to you?
Personal Banker
My interview process was easy because I remained calm, collected and confident. They ask many value and moral based questions. Likely, the most important question to them is "What are your feelings about sales jobs? Do you like or dislike them?" I recommend you respond honestly to this one especially. They probably won't hire you for this position if you say no, but if you say yes and don't mean, you probably won't enjoy work. It really is a fun environment with nice people and starting pay for entry level is normally around $10.00/hr which is more than I've seen for starting at other banks.
- How do you feel about sales jobs?
- What is your approach to approaching strangers and selling them something?

I was trying for an entry into banking soon after my graduation. Friends advised me that for banking entry, a stint in a customer service position and cash register maintenance are required. Accordingly, I worked for Walmart. During the telephone interview, the interviewer tried to assess my behavioral aspects. It was like a friendly chat and he tried to be casual, indicating I would be hearing from them shortly. During the final interview, the recruiter asked me if I had ever had occasion to fight with a customer at Walmart. My response was never. Since my graduation had a banking subject, he touched on basics. This interview was also calm, positive, and pleasing.
- Have you ever fought with a customer?
- What is your course of action if you witness a customer in a dispute with a colleague?

I sent in my application online and a recruiter reached out the very next day. She gave me the rundown on the company and the position and asked if I was still interested in interviewing at the branch. I said sure and she set up the interview. Meeting with the branch manager was pretty chill. She asked the standard interview questions. Then she gave me her phone and said to pitch it to her to show I could sell. I nailed that interview and she then arranged a phone chat with the district manager. That call was mostly about me confirming that I felt good about what the job entailed.
- I wasn't ready to give a sales pitch, but it ended up working out okay.
