First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at First American Title Insurance.
Talent Acquisition Specialist
The interview process was straightforward with just one round. However, the interviewers had really high expectations, asking if I could single-handedly fill 400 roles in a month and work every Saturday for six months, even though the job is advertised as a 5-day work week. They were basically normalizing weekend work as a company requirement and weren't open to other answers, wanting me to say what they expected.
- Are you ready to commit to working Saturdays?
- Can you commit to closing 400 roles in a single month?
- How do you strategize and design recruitment plans?
Marketing Specialist
The interview process was really smooth and straightforward. It was really friendly too. There were three main stages: first, I had a chat with the recruiter. Then, I interviewed with my future direct manager and another senior manager.
- Can you tell me about some of your past work?
Director
The interview process began with a recruiter screen, followed by a first round with the Hiring Manager. I was informed by the recruiter that a System Design component would be included in this first round, but it wouldn't carry significant weight as they were seeking a leader with my extensive technical background. However, during the interview, I discovered only 20 minutes were allocated for this System Design activity, which is quite challenging given the typical duration for such a round. After the interview, despite multiple follow-ups, the recruiter ghosted me without providing any feedback. It's clear I didn't meet their expectations, but the lack of communication is baffling. I've observed a trend of companies adopting FAANG-style interviews, which I believe might overlook candidates with practical, real-world problem-solving experience. This was a very disappointing experience with First American. Be cautious and avoid wasting your time. If you're preparing for System Design, you might have better luck with a FAANG company.
- System Design question for which I had 20 mins
Engineering Manager
The hiring process kicked off with a call from the internal recruiter. Following that, there was a conversation with a senior manager. The final stage was a panel interview that covered system design/architecture, how projects are executed, and collaboration. The recruiter was super transparent, explaining a minor delay due to aligning on job requirements but then moved things along quickly. The system design round felt practical, not overly difficult like some FAANG-style problems, and it was more of a discussion to gauge mutual technical fit rather than a strict evaluation. They provided ample time for questions, and it was evident everyone was aligned on the company culture. I didn't sense any stress or deception from the interviewers. The compensation, tech stack, and culture were all solid. I would recommend that other managers seriously consider applying to First American Title.
- Can you design a language-agnostic small system on the whiteboard collaboratively with the interviewers?
