First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Finnegan Henderson.
Legal Assistant/Paralegal
The hiring process for this role spanned roughly a month from the initial application through to receiving an offer, and it felt like a well-managed and clear progression. It began with an introductory chat with the Head of the Litigation Department. This first meeting was more about mutual understanding than a strict interview, focusing on my background, career interests, and specific reasons for pursuing litigation. Following this, I had interviews with a group of three to four partners. These sessions were neither lengthy nor particularly demanding. The discussions flowed naturally and conversationally, rather than being a barrage of technical inquiries. Each partner offered a distinct viewpoint, but the overall atmosphere remained consistently professional, welcoming, and genuinely interested in my candidacy. Throughout the entire experience, all the individuals I interacted with were approachable and kind. It was evident that while professional competence and prior experience are valued, there's a significant emphasis placed on finding candidates who align with the firm's culture. They are keen to understand your personality, your collaborative style, and your potential to flourish within their team environment. Generally, the process was seamless and positive, avoiding any intimidating aspects and providing a clear insight into the firm's values and operational focus.
- What is driving your search for a new role?
Intern
Had a single interview with HR, who asked general questions about my school and extracurricular experiences. The interviewer was friendly and guided me toward the answers they were looking for.
- What motivated you to apply for this internship?
IP Secretary
This was literally the worst interview I've ever had. The guy had only been working for Finnegan for 3 weeks and clearly was reading off a list of outdated interview questions. I gave him 3 answers to one question after my first two were apparently unsatisfactory. He even said "No one gets this answer right." Ok, then why ask it? It makes the company look awful.
- Tell me what makes you stand out from other candidates.
- Describe a challenging situation you successfully navigated at work.
Attorney
It was a really casual and friendly interview process with everyone. I interviewed with multiple attorneys from different practice groups. The conversations were all very relaxed, and it felt like a chat. The second round of interviews took place at the firm's office.
- Could you explain your interest in this specific city?
- What attracts you to our firm?
- Which practice areas spark your interest?
