Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Financial Conduct Authority.
Data Analyst
I only got to the first interview stage, which was a motivational interview. They ask a lot of questions related to their company, and reading up on case studies is super helpful because they expect you to know that. I'd guess the assessment center would be similar to other finance companies. The team is really helpful with feedback.
- In your own words, what does the FCA do?
- Can you share a recent news item about the FCA?
- What attracts you to the finance industry?
Data Analyst
The whole process from applying to finishing took about 2 months. First, you submit an online application. Then, you answer 5 motivation questions, each up to 250 words. After that, there's a telephone interview focusing on your motivations and competencies. Next is the Assessment Centre, which includes a pre-assessment task where you analyze big data and create a presentation of your findings. This is followed by a technical interview and a situational interview. Finally, there's an independent case study task with a Q&A session afterward.
- Could you explain your motivation for applying to the FCA and this specific role?
- How do you keep yourself informed about the latest developments in data utilization and financial markets?
- What are the methods the FCA employs to safeguard consumers?
Data Analyst
It was challenging, and they really wanted to see how well I aligned with their company values and the specific requirements of the role. Depending on how technical the job is, you might also have to complete an assessment that could be quite difficult.
- Can you describe how you manage working under pressure or when facing tight deadlines?
