Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Financial Conduct Authority.
Senior Associate
The application screening seems to be done by AI, which might auto-reject candidates even if they meet all criteria. The whole process feels impersonal and poorly managed. I interviewed for two roles last year; one team was friendly, but the other, an international team, seemed self-absorbed and uninterested. Despite claims of hiring across locations, there's a strong London bias, putting national office applicants at a disadvantage.
- Can you provide an example of when you used the STAR method to answer a question?
Associate
The interview process was very structured, with some situational questions given ahead of time. They provided guidelines on using the STAR model and structuring answers to meet competency requirements. Interviewers were nice and respectful, but the process was extremely long, taking over three months, and it felt like they were interviewing a lot of people. There were only two rounds of interviews.
- Describe a situation where you had to make a tough call at work.
- Tell me about a work situation where recognizing your impact on others was crucial.
- Can you share an instance where you took ownership to ensure delivery?
Lead Associate
The interview had two parts. First was a technical assessment, then two managers interviewed me. They asked technical and competency questions, and some questions were about the assessment.
- What are the top three risks you believe are impacting the consumer credit sector?
