Software Engineer
Had an intro call with HR, then got scheduled for a 2.5 hour technical interview. The technical interview had some intro time, then 1.5 hours of coding, followed by a code review. I was iffy when I heard there was no matching 401k. But I went ahead. Learned during the technical interview that PestRoutes operates with no framework, no CI/CD pipelines, and no tests in place. I didn't wait to hear back. I emailed them shortly after and thanked them for their time, but let them know I was not interested. I've seen enough home-brewed architecture to know I don't want that again. Couple that with no CI/CD or tests is a hard no. It could be a great place to work. I have no idea of course and just having those things doesn't make everything perfect. But I'll take my chances elsewhere.
- Can you tell me about your previous experience in the industry?
Software Developer
You'll start with a phone screen with a senior dev, then get a coding problem and a database knowledge test. We consider you for the right role based on your experience.
- Tell me about a coding question you've encountered.
Software Engineer Intern
I shared my resume with a manager at a career fair and they were impressed. They did a quick on-the-spot interview and said they'd send a coding challenge. I got an email for the next round asking for my availability. I gave them a 2-hour window, but they scheduled a 5-hour interview, which was inconvenient. The HR confirmed the manager would call at 11 am. The manager was late and needed a reminder. They explained the role, and then I worked on an assessment. After finishing, I asked for another call. We scheduled it for 12 pm, but the manager didn't show up. After I contacted them, they admitted they forgot and went to lunch, joining almost an hour late. I explained my code, answered some questions, and the round ended. I asked for feedback, and they said I'd hear back in a few days. It's been a month, I've followed up multiple times with no response, and I've lost hope. They wasted my time and never gave feedback.
