Manager
You apply online and do an online test with about 108 multiple-choice questions covering customer service, managerial experience, problem-solving, and math. They responded within two days. The process involved three interviews. It started with a phone call to schedule the first interview. This first interview was with a hiring manager from Arizona over the phone, lasting about 20 minutes, focusing on your understanding and use of metrics for success in your current job. The interviewer made it comfortable, and the conversation flowed easily through your managerial experience. You were then told the center manager of the store you applied to would contact you for a second interview. They called the next day. This interview was with the Center Manager, who used a question sheet as a guide but kept it conversational. They focused on your managerial abilities regarding employee handling, discipline, and dealing with difficult customers. You were then informed that the district manager would like to interview you. This was scheduled for the next morning. The third interview was a 3-person panel with the district manager and two other center managers. Each asked questions for about 30 minutes, which was more comfortable than expected. Questions were taken from printed sheets but asked casually, with note-taking by the interviewers. Topics included managing people (kudos, discipline, difficult customers) and handling scenarios. They also asked about your current pay rate. You were told the center manager would contact you with their decision. The center manager called that afternoon offering the position and mentioning another call from the Arizona hiring manager to discuss pay. The hiring manager called, offered more money than expected, and instructed you to return to the center for paperwork for a drug test. After completing that, you started work a week later.

Assistant Manager
I applied online and got a call a week later to set up an interview for the following Wednesday at 11am. On Wednesday, at 10:30am, they called to reschedule for the next week and told me to call on Friday to set a time. I called on Friday but no one answered. I tried calling on Monday with no luck. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the manager was repeatedly in meetings, so I was told to call back. Then, on Thursday, I received an email saying the position was filled. I don't appreciate my time being wasted. While emergencies happen (or so I was told), canceling with only half an hour's notice is unacceptable. However, avoiding calls to reschedule appointments you initiated is unprofessional and frankly, classless. Because of this experience, I will never apply to FedEx again or do any business with them.

Assistant Manager
It was an interview for an internal applicant, so I might have been too relaxed. There was a panel with the Hiring Center Manager, an interim District Manager, and a District Auditor. The Center Manager and District Manager were friendly. The District Auditor was a bit stiff at first but warmed up. The interview lasted about 45 minutes and covered the usual questions from the company's protocol, like strengths/weaknesses, teamwork, and management styles. I felt it was a formality because I never heard back or got feedback, suggesting they already had someone in mind. My advice for new applicants in NYC is to be professional and clear. Focus on your ability to multitask, delegate, manage staff, and work under pressure.
