First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Research Analyst
So there were two rounds. The first one was with two people who are second year analysts there. They asked me about what I was interested in, why I wanted to work at FRBNY, and to talk about an economics research project I had done. It was pretty easy. The second round was a discussion about research projects I had completed in financial economics.
- Can you describe an economics research project you have completed?
- Tell us about your interests.
- What's your motivation for applying to FRBNY?
Research Analyst
The current analysts went straight into the questions. There wasn't much intro or behavioral stuff. It really felt like they were just checking my competency, economic and econometric knowledge, and if I'd be a good fit and motivated. They also asked for some specifics on economic models, which caught me off guard for a phone interview.
- What's your motivation for joining the Fed?
Research Analyst
They do on-campus recruiting, then a phone interview, and then a skype call with some of the economists about specific projects. Be ready to talk in-depth about your research, though it really depends on who you talk to and what projects they are working on. HR is typically quite slow in scheduling interviews or letting you know if you've made it to the next round, so don't stress if you don't hear back for a week or two.
- Can you tell us about your research background and academic history, and what areas you're interested in within this division?
- Please provide a thorough discussion of your research.
