The interview process was pretty fast at first, taking under two weeks to get through a phone screen with both the recruiter and the hiring manager before moving on to an in-person interview. The in-person was pretty long, over 3.5 hours with 5 different people, and included a 20-minute writing test. After the in-person, I waited about two weeks to check on the status and was told they were still interviewing. Another two weeks passed with no word, so I followed up again with the hiring manager. About 10 minutes later, I got a standard rejection email from the recruiter. It took a total of four weeks from my in-person interview to hear back, which was the worst part of the experience because it felt like they didn't respect my time and just kept me waiting. I put in a lot of time and effort, and even spent money to prepare, and it would have been nice if the key people had the courtesy to give me feedback sooner so I could move on. My advice to recruiters and hiring managers: stop leaving candidates in limbo.

The interview had three rounds: two phone calls with HR and management, followed by an in-person meeting at their headquarters with HR, management, and upper management. Federal Realty was very flexible and accommodating throughout the entire process. They were always on time, and we managed to schedule calls at times that wouldn't raise suspicion with my current employer. All interviews, phone and in-person, provided a solid understanding of the company and the role. We were both clear about our expectations, which made the process smooth. Having interviewed with many companies before, I can say Federal does a great job with their process. They are flexible, accommodating, and transparent, which is all a candidate can ask for.

The overall experience was good. Even though it's a technical role, they were more focused on my ability to learn, communicate, and work with different departments. It started with an initial phone interview with HR. After that, I went onsite for interviews with the IT department. I had to come onsite again to meet with management, including leaders from non-IT departments. Soon after, I got an offer in person over lunch from my future boss. Getting the offer at lunch was a nice, unexpected personal touch. I accepted after some negotiation.

The interview process felt a bit too corporate, focusing on keywords instead of my actual experience and achievements. It started with a phone interview, followed by a video call with someone from their California office. I felt they used current salary too much to screen candidates. The HR team was professional and gave straightforward answers, but didn't really explore my practical experience in depth.
