First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fate Therapeutics.
Scientist
It was quite smooth and enjoyable. All the interviewers are friendly and professional. They were curious and showed quite a good scientific vibe. 3 rounds: HR, HM, panel interview. General process.
- What made you choose this company?
Process Development Engineer
The phone interview with the manager was quite direct and not very friendly. She asked about my responsibilities in my previous role, almost as if questioning my direct involvement or capability. It felt a bit demeaning, like she doubted my ability to handle more complex tasks. When I tried asking her some technical questions, she seemed uncomfortable and didn't provide complete answers.
- Can you describe your responsibilities?
- Was this your work, or did someone else do it?
Research Associate
I was reached out by a talent acquisition member. I spoke to her for about an hour and scheduled what I was told was a pre-interview with who ended up being the hiring manager. Turns out, it was the actual official interview. They made it seem casual, very focused on personality questions, which I thought was fine. But he avoided every single one of my questions regarding the actual responsibilities of the job. I spent an hour talking with this person. I never heard back after sending a follow-up email, and got no response. It was extremely disrespectful to take more than 2 hours of my time and not even respond with a 'we chose someone else.'
- Why did you apply to this company and what are your career goals?
- What are your goals?
Senior Scientist
It was a 5-hour initial phone screen which included an interview and a presentation. The team seemed nice overall, though some scientists were unprofessional and uninterested. They also lack diversity. The interview covered science and general work topics. I was told they'd follow up, but weeks went by. I emailed the hiring manager for an update and got no response. My advice is to at least follow up with candidates; we spend time applying and interviewing, and no reply is unprofessional and reflects poorly on the company.
